A Giant Cultural Addition - Opera Kelowna
When classical music meets modern rock, there is produced Opera Kelowna's 2018 Bizet's Carmen. Showcasing a classical opera with a twist of modern inspiration, Opera Kelowna presented a fabulous work of artistry and fun. The opera was first performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris on 3 March 1875, where its breaking of conventions shocked and scandalized its first audiences
Opera Kelowna put on a great show this summer, with "Opera in the Park", "Opera Under the Stars" at UBCO, and the finale opera performance at the Kelowna Community Theatre.
In partnership with the presenting sponsor, University of British Columbia Okanagan, along with sponsors like the British Columbia Arts Council, Central Okanagan Foundation, City of Kelowna, Argus Properties, and many other sponsors, Opera Kelowna was able to make this event a marvelous success!
Artistic Director, Alexandra Babbel recruited wonderful talent locally as well as internationally to produce this amazing performance! The team included (plus many more) Bernard McDonald, the Scottish conductor, Suzanne Lommler, and Barbara King as Carmen, and Amiel Gladstone as Stage Director. The great additions to the onstage performance were the children who are involved musically with Opera Kelowna.
We look forward to anticipating more wonderful talents and shows to come year after year!
