Royal Visit to Kelowna

September 27, 2016

Once in a life time opportunity for many, to be in the company of their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Kelowna, BC, on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.

The couple arrived in Kelowna by airplane for a tour of the city that includes a visit to the University of British Columbia Okanagan and a chance to sample British Columbia's culinary scene.

Argus Properties and Inn-Trust Hospitality helped in welcoming the arrival by temporarily covering existing signage on the corner of Highway 97 and Airport Way, infront of the Four Point by Sheraton Kelowna Aiport.

Hundreds of locals gathered to catch a glimpse of the royal couple at the public ceremony held in the central courtyard at the University. The royal couple unveiled a plaque to mark the university’s 10th anniversary, then went on to watch the nationally-ranked UBCO Heat, women’s volleyball team exhibition match.

Later, the couple headed off to the Taste of British Columbia Festival at a private event at Mission Hill Winery.

Following the winery event, the couple then flew to Whitehorse, Yukon, staying overnight as part of their schedule eight-day Royal Visit to Canada.

Easing Parking Congestion with a Cause

The lead up to the Royal Visit in Kelowna organizers were concerned about transportation to and from the UBCO campus with no public parking available on campus for this particular event. Argus Properties worked with the community to provide temporary event parking just down from the University on a future build site along Innovation Drive.

Students from Heritage Christian School operated the lot, charging $10 for parking with proceeds going towards their global citizenship program – a 6 week trip to Mexico at the end of the school year. Royal watchers were then shuttled up to the University campus. To view the full report click here
