The Progress of JoeAnna's House
Every year, thousands of families from across the interior of British Columbia must travel from their homes in order for a loved one to receive life-saving specialist care at Kelowna General Hospital.
For many families wanting to maintain a base at KGH (Kelowna General Hospital) for the period of their loved ones treatment, the lack of affordable short-term accommodation in Kelowna adds significantly to their hardship.
Research shows that patients heal better when surrounded by their loved ones. They get better when together.
Thanks to all of the generous donations, and fundraising that has occurred for JoeAnna's House, including the Innkeeper's 29th Annual Black and White, Starry, Starry Night; JoeAnna's House has been able to get its feet off of the ground
If you’ve driven or walked past the site recently you will see that team is making very good progress. The exterior siding is starting to go up, and attention to the inside of the building will happen over the next few weeks. They are currently sprayfoaming the 2nd floor hallway, nstalling board and fire taping on the ceiling, and starting to drywall the drop ceiling areas in the bathrooms, closets, and hallways. There will be electrical wiring that will be pulled throughout the entire house.
The installation of the metal panelling on the roof has begun for the sloped roof areas in the north and east sides of the building. The exterior doors have arrived and installation has begun. Fir beams that are in the design will be installed for the lower exterior roofs by mid to end of next week. It is an exciting project to watch as it progresses along in its many stages.
A wonderful thank you to all those within our community who have helped to make this great home away from home a reality.
