Chilkoot Centre Welcomes New Neighbour
The Chilkoot Centre, owned and operated by Argus Properties Ltd. in Whitehorse, Yukon, is pleased to welcome a new neighbour to the area. A brand new Save-On-Foods is set to open the summer of 2017. The official groundbreaking ceremony was announcement Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the site with Save-On-Foods president Darrell Jones and Mayor of Whitehorse Dan Curtis in attendance.
Argus Properties sold the site earlier this year to Save-On-Foods, a subsidiary of the Overwaitea Food Group. After years of sitting vacant, the former Ricki’s All Day Grill Restaurant will be torn down to make way for new construction.
During the groundbreaking event, Darrell Jones mentions the new Save-On-Foods will contain a Starbucks. Currently a drive-thru Starbucks located at the Chilkoot Centre just across the street does exist and will remain serving as a destination location, while the Starbucks inside the new grocery anchor will be enjoyed by shoppers as a convenience.
The site had plans with Landmark Cinemas of Canada to develop a new movie theatre, as many years have passed without construction moving forward a mutually agreed on decision was accepted to terminate the lease and subsequently hand the property back to the Landlord.
The addition of the Overwaitea Food Group benefits residents and businesses alike by offering additional choices for consumers, making the Chilkoot Centre and surrounding retailers the premier shopping area of the Yukon. Argus Properties is proud and excited to be a part of the community’s development and to provide quality spaces for retailers in the City of Whitehorse.
